The Phoenix Ring

The Phoenix Ring

In the world of bespoke jewellery, inspiration often comes from the client herself. Recently, one of our most chic clients – someone who sees every piece of jewellery as a beautiful accent to enhance her personal style – approached us to design a ring. We found an exquisite emerald that perfectly captured her spirit, and that became the starting point of our design journey.

What makes bespoke jewellery so special is its ability to suit the wearer’s individuality – not just her features but also her identity. For this piece, in particular, we had to carefully consider its size, ensuring the ring would fit her hand perfectly without taking away from the beauty of the emerald. Our challenge was to create a design that honoured the gemstone, even within a smaller, delicate setting, while reflecting our client’s innate elegance. The band needed to be understated yet refined – subtle so as not to distract from the emerald, but distinctive enough to showcase it.

Several conversations with the client, followed by conceptual sketches, led us to this elegant winged band – a structure at once architectural and graceful. The prong setting (also known as a claw setting) cradles the emerald, with metal tines emerging from the base of the ring to hold the stone firmly in place. This timeless and minimalist setting allows the emerald to catch the light, enhancing its natural brilliance. We chose 18-carat fine white gold for this piece. Its warm, pale yellow hue beautifully complements the green of the stone without overwhelming it.

Crafting a ring of this size and intricacy involves meticulous handcrafting to ensure perfect symmetry, a secure setting for the stone and a beautiful finish. As with all our bespoke creations, the process included multiple fittings to guarantee a comfortable and flawless fit on our client’s hand.

At Ahalya, we believe that design speaks its own language – one that is open to interpretation, experienced differently when viewed through different lenses. Our client’s son, inspired by the upward sweep of the wings, named this piece “The Phoenix Ring.” A friend who saw a photograph remarked that it looked like “good fortune about to take flight.” We are always delighted when a client loves their bespoke Ahalya creation; but even more so when our designs spark joy and imagination.
