Kolam Earrings
One of the many reasons we enjoy working closely with customers to develop unique, bespoke pieces of jewellery is the opportunity it offers for discovery. Both the process and the end result can be unexpected, enriching our understanding of the craft and subtly renewing our approach to it.
One of our clients came to us with a request: she wanted a pair of earrings featuring emeralds – her favourite stone – but without the traditional pairing of pearls or diamonds. She felt oval stones didn’t suit her and had always worn round gems, something she wished to continue. With this brief, we began our explorations of form.

Instead of choosing an elaborate or complex design, we kept things simple. We wanted to create something that captured the beauty of the emeralds while allowing them to shine. We experimented with diamond-cut emeralds – unusual for such a soft stone, with a higher rate of rejection – resulting in a crisp, sparkling finish.

We chose to pair the stone with white gold, allowing the green of the emerald to stand out in quiet contrast. The pavé setting further maximises the gemstone’s brilliance.

We were delighted with the result – a pair of earrings that combines rounded edges and sharp lines in a striking geometry; substantial yet lightweight, subtle yet significant.
